Idiscussed the feasibility of establishing a Trust with a former President of the National Welsh-American Foundation, the late, great Dr Islyn Thomas OBE, of Madison, New Jersey who, incidentally, originally came from Maesteg. We agreed that the objectives of such a Trust will be to:
  1. Further research the Madoc and the American Indians.

  2. Genetically prove the pre-Columbian link between the Welsh and the American Indians.

  3. Commission a film script of the story.

  4. Get a major feature film made, based on the script.

When I mentioned Item 3 to Dr Thomas, he remarked that it was a proposition which had been put to him before, by a certain Richard Burton, before the latter passed on to his happy hunting ground.

The Madoc International Research Association (MIRA) has been formed. There will be a link to the MIRA website as soon as it is online.

The opportunity of establishing the Welsh as the first proven European-Americans will give Welsh-Americans of today the unique opportunity to identify with their Welsh Ancestors. The implications of promoting the fact, via a major feature film, that a group of peace-loving Welsh men and women settled in America over three hundred years before Columbus, will raise the profile of Wales considerably, particularly in the United States of America and Canada.
